Welcome to God and Hollywood

Welcome to my new blog God and Hollywood. My name is Charisse Van Horn and in addition to this blog, I write for Examiner.com with a title of the same name: God and Hollywood Examiner.

In light of the recent, horrific tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, where Adam Lanza is believed to have shot his mother, Nancy Lanza dead, then used her vehicle to drive to Sandy Hook Elementary school and murdered 20 children and 6 staff members, I felt it was time to revisit the possible link between on-screen violence and society.

Do you believe that the majority of the population can separate fact from fiction? Can they watch on-screen violence and compartmentalize it as fantasy in their minds? Or do you think that what is depicted on screen flows from the mind into the spirit and can become seeds for actions?

If you do believe there is a direct correlation between on-screen violence, graphic murder scenes depicted on screen, or dreadful accounts of horror and terror and a person's psyche (such as the actions they commit in real life), who is susceptible to this behavior?

Is it only the mentally impaired, or those with personality deficiencies or disorders who are affected or is no one immune?

I'm fascinated to hear what you believe and I will continue to follow the correlation between on-screen violence and its potential impact on society on this blog and my God and Hollywood column on Examiner.com.

In addition to following 0n-screen violence, I will profile different celebrities and their faith (for example Denzel Washington is an outspoken Christian, Richard Gere is a practicing Buddhist and Tom Cruise is a well-known Scientologist), and will explore how their personal faith impacts their roles and position in Hollywood.

Thanks for visiting the blog and I hope you enjoy your stay.

There will be plenty of celebrity and movie photos and videos (such as interviews and trailers) that you can find in the tabs above.

Again, welcome to God and Hollywood. I hope you will find the site an interesting and informative read.
